Here are a variety of works from North Metro TAFE course and other workshops.
I produced a wide variety of pieces, trialing a variety of clays, slips and glazes, in preparation for solo firing of a large gas kiln.

Extra Tall Happy Days Sgraffito Vase (2024)
Recycled stoneware clay, hollow extruded, coloured slips, carved, then bisqued.
Poured white gloss liner glaze and painted clear external gloss glaze.
Electric kiln fired to 1260C. Height 45cm.

Notes: It was problematic painting a large piece which was too tall to dip. Would have been to have sprayed clear glaze on after pouring the liner and cleaning up rim.
Needed extra coat of deep blue slip on light coloured greenware clay to achieve uniform colouring, but I was happy with the carving technique.
Textured Wrapped Metallic Vase (2024)
Keanes Stoneware No 7, textured slabs, handbuilt home studio, bisqued.
Scott Dooley Copper Oxide 10% glaze, wiped back and painted full on striations. Clear liner and Teal or Frosty Blue on body.
Gas fired kiln to Cone 9 with reduction.

Notes: Good metallic effect on the rivets and seams and nice brownish rust tinges underneath the top glaze coat.
Kopf VI Wedge (2024)
Kim Lyons Dark Buff Stoneware clay, handbuilt, carved, bisqued, then gold metallic Manganese glaze, painted on, with black slip base on bisqued work.
Electric kiln fired to 1260C.

Notes: I used a Journal of Australian Ceramics recipe to create a bronze like glaze, which high Manganese content. Was terrific, except it should have been fired lower. It ran at the higher stoneware firing temperature.
Lighthouse (2024)
Keanes White Raku clay, handbuilt, double stained slips, carved then bisqued.
Black gloss liner glaze poured and clear glaze painted over, lower part only.
Electric kiln fired to 1260C.

Notes: Deeper red with clear over, deeper lime stained slip from higher firing. Carving is better when leatherhard not dry, with groggy clay.
Happy Days Sgraffito (2024)
Recycled stoneware clay, hollow extruded, black slip, sgraffito carved motifs, bisqued.
Clear out glaze and black gloss liner glaze.
Gas fired to Cone 9

Notes: Black slip effective for carving pattens in green clay but light clay shows up underneath if too thin or rubbed off.
Foot Bowl (2024)
Keanes White Raku, handbuilt, two-part, bisqued.
Ferric oxide wash in clear glaze to foot, wiped back. Black glaze to join. Clear outer glaze painted on. Rasberry then Teal Blue on top for bowl.
Gas kiln fired to Cone 9 with reduction.

Notes: Problem with Teal Blue on all pieces. Raku darker grey than expected at full Cone 9 firing.
Inlaid Vessel (2024)
Keanes White Raku inlaid with LGH and Kim Lyons Dark Stoneware, handbuilt, bisqued.
Tea Dust liner poured and rim dipped. Clear outer glaze.
Electric fired to 1260C.

Notes: Shrinkage of LGH inlay compared with White Raku, nice effect of Tea Dust on WR.

Flower Power Lava-back Vase (2024)
Blackwattle Buff Stoneware Speckle clay, hollow extruded, coloured slips, carved, then bisqued.
Mishima black slip painted then wiped, coloured slip, White liner glazed poured then White Lava glaze (silicon carbide) painted to back.
Electric kiln fired to 1260C.

Square Extruded Textured Vase (2024)
Recycled stoneware clay, hollow extruded, and textured when leather hard. Bisqued.
Latex resist and dipped Blue gloss then latex removed and dipped in Tea Dust glaze.
Gas fired to Cone 9 with reduction.

Notes: Nice effect from resist and Tea Dust over Blue
Oval Vase (2024)
Keans White Raku clay or Walkers 10 (?), handbuilt, bisqued, sprayed on Teal Blue glaze and dipped Clear Crackle on lower half.
Fired in gas kiln to Cone 9.

Notes: Teal blue not working well in gas reduction, on multiple pieces. Spray booth enables variegation in coating top to bottom.
India ink stain brought up crackle pattern.

Feeney's BRT Buff Raku Trachyte clay (?), handbuilt, carved, then bisque. then teal blue glaze or bronze glaze ... Or Kim Lyons Dark Buff Stoneware?

Notes: Sadly blew out a thin sheet on one side as it was fired when still not bone dry, and in a rapid student bisque firing rather than my more gradual firing program.

Dipped all Clear gloss with latex resist on base and then Black gloss rim.
Gas fired kiln to Cone 9 with reduction.

Note: Grey colouration of clay at 1260C firing compared with warm bisque colour.

Walkers W10 Stoneware, textured then handbuilt, coloured slips blue and lime green, black slip liner, bisqued.
Clear gloss painted on.
Gas kiln fired to Cone 9 with reduction.

Notes; Spraying slips would have achieved better colour transition. W10 not great for handbuilding as very plastic.

Reduction fired in gas kiln to Cone 9.

Note: Back of head turned towards vent and flame, so oxidized compared with the pink (reduced copper) features on rest of head.

Keanes White Raku clay, handbuilt, coloured slips (black, orange, blue), carved, bisque-fired to 1000C in electric kiln. Approx. 35cm.
Cow with Attitude (2024)
Keanes White Raku clay, handbuilt, bisqued, then painted black slip.
Reduction fired in gas kiln to Cone 9.

Kim Lyons Buff Stoneware, handbuilt, bisque fired, then glazed with 'Blue Ice' (contains Copper Carbonate) and gas fired to 1280C in reduction. Approx. 18cm.
Legs (2024)
Dark Buff Stoneware or BRT, handbuilt, coloured slips (black, orange), sgraffito, electric bisque fired to 1000C in oxidation. Approx. 16cm.
Les Boys Glaze Tests Bronze (2024)
Walkers 10 Stoneware, handbuilt, red coloured slip, bisque fired, then glazed with 'Golden Bronze' (glazy.com recipe with mostly MnO, some CoO and CuO) painted on with medium, (light coat) and electric fired to 1280C in oxidation. Approx. 16cm.
Les Alien Glaze Tests (2024)
Walkers 10 Stoneware, handbuilt, green and red coloured slip to head, bisque fired, then glazed with 'Teal Blue' and 'Clear' gas fired to 1280C in reduction. Approx. 18cm.
